1994 through 1999 are our “Sincere Years”, we are sincere in our gratitude to God. Redeemed did not remain stagnated, but through these years we have been busy doing God’s work. Redeemed purchased 4 houses directly across from the Church. The corner lot purchased was turned into a parking lot which cost the Church $27,000.00. In June 1997, Keith Carter and Eugene Jenkins received their License to Preach, a new Church van and white Choir robes were purchased. The white robes are used on the First Sunday and for all funeral services.
In 1999 during our Church Anniversary, we produced the Commemorative Calendar, which featured all the membership of the Church in a calendar format representing their birthday month. The theme for this event was “Redeemed Celebrates A 30-Year Journey 1969-1999 And We Made It On Time”, using Matthew 21:22 as the scripture reference. February of 1999, James Neal was added to the Deacon Board. In March 1999, Bro Charles Smith was ordained as a Deacon.
1999 through 2006, we are “Still Standing Strong”. At this point it is clear to us what our mission is. We are here because God put us here to let others know of his goodness. Over the years we have learned that in order for anything to work successfully, we must consult God first and wait on His direction from the Holy Spirit.
January 2000, a New Member Class was instituted in our Sunday School. The instructor is a very dynamic teacher, Pastor Drinkwater himself. His lesson subjects include Faith, Prosperity, How we should treat the Church, others and ourselves, to mention a few.
In June 2001 the RMBC Christian Warriors Drill Team , along with Pastor Drinkwater and sponsors journeyed to Detroit, MI, for the National Congress Convention. We also received a blessing that same week when a family group (The Three Gringo’s) had heard of the great things being done at the Church and they donated the 5th piece of property adjacent to our four lots.
On November 10, 2001, we started the Nursing Home Ministry. Rev. Keith Carter and the Youth of Redeemed go to neighboring Nursing Homes to minister to the residents at 8:30 a.m. on the 2nd Sunday of each month. The residents are always eager to hear the Word and to see our faces. This Ministry also provide the “Christmas at Nursing Home” in which they present a special program and gifts for each resident.
On June 14, 2002, RMBC Christian Warriors Drill Team won 1st place at the National Championship in Phoenix, Arizona. Not only were they champions, but with their new uniforms, they looked really good. When they arrived back from Arizona, their bus was greeted with cheers and praises to God for our success.
Redeemed held our first Family Day in September 2002. After a three day lesson in our Love Week in which families were the basis for the lesson, a record breaking Family Day was held in which over 700 people were in attendance. On October 13, 2002, Ministers Jessie Broussard, Keith Carter and Eugene Jenkins received their “Gospel Ministry Certificate of Ordination”.
On Sunday, March 16, 2003, the Church celebrated our 34th Church Anniversary and Homecoming which included the “Burning of the Mortgage”. Yes, the loan taken out in 1993 was paid off 10 years early. The theme for this occasion was “A Unique Church In A Chaotic World”. What a special day at Redeemed!
The Redeemed Newsletter was reinstated on July 1, 2003. The Newsletter is published quarterly and reflects events of the church throughout the quarter. This Newsletter goes out to the membership of Redeemed as well as former members and Churches throughout Oklahoma.
PRAY FOR OUR YOUTH! In September 2003, the Church came together in a great way to focus on the youth. On Monday, September 8th through Wednesday, September 10th, a three day lesson entitled “Don’t Become Involved In Anything That Hinders Your Spiritual Growth”. The Around-the-Clock-Prayer started at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, and each hour thereafter, without a break in prayer ending at 7:00 a.m. Friday, September 13th. Saturday, September 14th we held a Youth Self-Denial Revival from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in which youth from throughout Oklahoma City and various Churches attended.
In 2003, Bro. Clendon White was placed on the Deacon Board. Our most recent addition to the Church is our Multi-purpose Room. It is a very unique room that will be very useful. It was completed in January 2004.
Because of the late Sis. Ocie Plunkett, former Chairperson of the Pastor’s Anniversary Committee, and her dream, we had a grand celebration on June 12, 2004, when we re-named the street in front of the Church in honor of our dynamic Pastor. We re-named the street Drinkwater Drive and Busch Street was no more.
We have reached another precious, momentous milestone and we proclaim to the world that we stand strong and united in Love. Our theme for our 35th Church Anniversary and Homecoming is “The Church With A Going And Growing Spirit “...But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18
In April 2005, Bro. Charles Smith Accepts his Calling, and he preached his first sermon on December 18, 2005. On June 6, 2005, a reception was given by the Mission for the 2005 High School and College graduates. The theme was “You Are What You Are Because of What You Do”, Is. 32:17. On November 20, 2005—Oh, what a beautiful day! After the 11:00 Service, there was a wedding in the House. Two of our finest were rejoined/brought even closer together (if that was possible) when they renewed their wedding vows. Many of their family members were present and of course, the Redeemed family. It was a lovely, joyful ceremony in every sense of the word. You should have seen what we saw and heard. Rev. Keith Carter was in charge. Congratulations Pastor L.R. Drinkwater and Sis. B.J. Drinkwater for all your wonderful years together and a desire to do it again...40 wonderful years together, and still such a beautiful couple.
On February 24, 2006, we celebrated our second Red and White Radio Ministry Banquet, recognizing 15 years. Congratulations Redeemed Radio Team. You are a group of dedicated, caring, Christian people that do so much for, not only the Redeemed family, but for the entire metropolitan area, and even points beyond. The Radio Ministry is indeed a tremendous blessing to a multitude of people. We appreciate you tremendously.
Redeemed hosted a Community Meeting on March 27, 2006. The spokesperson was Rep. Willa Johnson. The community was experiencing an unusual high rate of crime. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss things we could do to delete crime or at least lower it in our community. We want to see our neighborhoods and homes safe.
Saturday, April 22, 2006, was Installation Service at Redeemed. Four Deacons were installed. They were Bro. Ray McDonald, Bro. Bose Patmon, Bro. Cesar Peters, and Bro. Clendon White. This addition to the Deacon Board makes a total of twelve Deacons. All the Deacons love our Pastor, they are the Pastor’s helpers. They enable the Pastor to devote more time to feed and take care of his flock.
On June 1, 2006, Redeemed hosted the Miss Black Oklahoma pageant with Mrs. Clara Luper and other sponsors. They were guest at our 11:00 Service on Youth Day. Youth Day at Redeemed is when the youth choir sings among other things. The Youth Department issued a hearty Welcome to the guest. Dinner was served to the guest immediately following the end of the Service.
June, 2006, our fabulous Christian Warriors Drill Team journeyed to Nashville, TN. We entered the BTU and the Drill Teams competitions. The BTU received second place. Our BTU Team was the late Ebonee Anderson, Malcolm Baker and Marc Knight. Ebonee was a shining star. She was a whiz at finding the scriptures with plenty of time still left on the clock. The Drill Team won first place. Other drill teams, with many members, came from all across the United States. But, with our faithful few, and GOD; V-I-C-T-O-R-Y was ours. We are very proud of the Youth of Redeemed.
On September 10, 2006, Pastor Drinkwater received an Honorary Doctoral Degree. But that does not matter to our Pastor, he is still the same great anointed, dedicated preacher, teacher, leader that he has always been. Pastor received his degree from the Christian Ministers Alliance in Tulsa, OK, at the Morning Star Baptist Church where Rev. Samuel Mingo is the Pastor. Rev. M.L. Jemison, Pastor of St. John Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK delivered a powerful message. Many members drove their own cars and we chartered a bus to travel to be with our Pastor to witness this grand event. We wanted to show our love, support, and appreciation. We are very proud of our Pastor, Rev. Dr. L.R. Drinkwater, Sr.
In November 2006, we purchased and remodeled another building. It is called the “Activity House”. The purpose of this house is to give us more inside space. It will be utilized in many ways. We will use it for various youth activities, including the Fall Festival sponsored each year by the Ushers and Nurses, Drill Team practice, food pantry box, love offering storage and preparation of food boxes, and more. On December 4, 2006, Charles Smith received his Gospel Ministry Certificate of Ordination.
Our 2007 theme is “The Redeemed Missionary Baptist Church Is Traveling Highway 2007 That Leads To Heaven”. In February 2007, ‘The Helping Hands Ministry’ was organized. It is a program designed to help young mothers and fathers with their families. The program will help in getting all children to Sunday School and Church, and assist young adults who need self-improvement and provide various information in different areas. Basically, our purpose is to strengthen young men and women spiritually, to teach them the obligations of family life and changing their hearts through the Holy Spirit.
In 2008, the Christian Warriors Drill Team journeyed to Dallas, TX, winning first place. We were met with great obstacles in the process of having new uniforms made. But that did not stop us. We know that God is God and what He can do. Another great accomplishment in 2008 was becoming the sole owner of the Oil Well next to the Church. God does answer prayer, and there is nothing too hard for Him. During 2008, Pastor was directed by the Holy Spirit to tell the membership that we must sacrifices more and pray more. We were asked to attend Early Friday Morning Prayer every Friday before the First Sunday (it would be a great blessing if we would go every Friday at 6:30 a.m.) There is so much that we stand in the need of and so much that we desire. We must realize that being obedient is very important in the receiving of blessings and receiving things or not receiving things that we pray for. On December 14, 2008, we made great history when we held a Benefit Service for three very special members who had undergone organ transplants. The three special members who received organ transplants are: Bro. Brandon Aden—a heart transplant, Sis Loretta Pompey—a liver transplant, and Sis. Ruth Hale—a kidney transplant. God is a miracle worker and as we always say “nothing is too hard for God”. It was an awesome event which just proved what we already knew—that Redeemed is filled with very compassionate, generous, kind and loving people.
Celebrating the end of the year 2008 and the beginning of the New Year 2009, our Watch Meeting was dedicated to those who were in prison. We prayed that God will deliver our family members who are imprisoned. We are still praying and seeing results.
Our Pastor has brought to our attention that we would have a Midnight Prayer Meeting as soon as the Holy Spirit directs him on the date. Again, we should remember our teaching on making sacrifices and being obedient.
Our theme for 2008 is: “Redeemed—The Time Is Now To Take The Mountain” Scripture-”But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine; for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and thou they be strong.—Joshua 17:18
Now we are celebrating 40 years, four decades. We are still praying, still being taught God’s Word, still learning to be better Christians, and still growing stronger in the Lord. We recognized long ago that it is all about Jesus. Redeemed, we should constantly and sincerely thank God for blessing us so abundantly during the years of our existence. As we stand on the threshold of our 40th Church Anniversary and Homecoming, we continue to give praise to God for all that He has done for the Redeemed Missionary Baptist Church—”FORTY YEARS TRIED, TESTED and TRIUMPHANT In CHRIST JESUS”—Deut. 8:12 & 2 Cor. 2:14
